How to clean a dishwasher filter

Is your dishwasher serving up a side of funk with your clean plates? 🍽️😷 Time to show those hidden filters some love! Here’s how to get your dishwasher back to its fresh-and-clean glory:

 

What you need

✔ Dishwashing Liquid (or Kitchen Grease & Oil Cleaner)
✔ General Cloth
✔ Universal Cleaner
✔ Atomiser
✔ Dish Brush
✔ Grout Brush

Step-by-step guide

Step 1
Remove the trays and place them on the benchtop (use an old towel to protect the surface).

Step 2
Locate the filters at the base of your dishwasher (check your manual if you’re not sure).

Step 3
Carefully remove the filters — they usually twist out easily.

Step 4
At the sink, prepare a bath of warm water with a squirt of Dishwashing Liquid.

Step 5
Gently scrub the filters with a Dish Brush to remove trapped food particles and grease.

Step 6
Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all soap residue, then set aside to dry.

Step 7
Spray Universal Cleaner on the trays as well as the dishwasher’s interior walls and door.

Step 8
Spray the rubber seals and edges, then clean using a Grout Brush wrapped with a General Cloth.

Step 9
Wipe down all surfaces with a General Cloth, using the Scrubby Corner for stubborn grime or limescale.

Step 10
Put the filters back into place.

Step 11
Wipe down trays with a General Cloth and replace them inside the dishwasher.

Step 12
Spray and wipe the exterior with Universal Cleaner and a General Cloth.

Step 13
Add ½–2 cups of white vinegar into the base of the dishwasher and run empty on the hottest cycle.
