How to clean picture frames and wall art

Whether it’s your nana’s oil painting, your kid’s finger-painting, or a statement print you scored online, dusty frames and smudgy glass can make even the best art look blah. Time to bring the gallery shine back—without toxic chemicals.

What you need

✔ Universal Cleaner
✔ General Cloth
✔ Glass Cloth (for streak-free glass frames)
✔ Dusting Mitt (for unframed paintings or delicate surfaces)

Step-by-step guide

Step 1
For framed art, dust the frame and glass with the Dusting Mitt. For unframed paintings, lightly dust only — then stop.

Step 2
For framed art only: lightly spray Universal Cleaner onto your General Cloth (never directly on glass or art).

Step 3
Wipe frames and glass in smooth, even strokes.

Step 4
Use the Scrubby Corner of your General Cloth for stubborn spots.

Step 5
Polish glass frames to a streak-free finish with the Glass Cloth.

Pro tip

• Never spray directly onto artwork — moisture is the enemy. For ornate frames, fold the cloth into a point to reach tricky nooks.

Safety first: Test an inconspicuous corner on ornate or antique frames; avoid heavy pressure on canvases or fragile frames; and for high-value or irreplaceable art, dust only — leave deep cleaning to a professional conservator.
