How to clean a dryer lint trap and vent

Dryer lint might look harmless, but left to build up it’s one of the biggest fire risks in the home. A quick clean keeps your dryer safe, efficient, and your laundry routine stress-free.

What you need

✔ Universal Cleaner
✔ General Cloth
✔ Vacuum with hose attachment
✔ Long flexible dryer vent brush (optional but brilliant)

Step-by-step guide

Step 1
Unplug your dryer (non-negotiable safety first).

Step 2
Remove the lint screen, discard any lint into the bin, then give it a quick spray of Universal Cleaner and wipe with a General Cloth.

Step 3
Vacuum deep into the lint trap and around the vent opening.

Step 4
Spray Universal Cleaner inside the lint trap housing and wipe away dust.

Step 5
Disconnect the dryer vent hose, vacuum inside, and run a vent brush through to catch stubborn lint.

Step 6
Reattach, plug back in, and revel in your lint-free tumble dryer.

Pro tip

• Clean your lint trap after every load — it’s the quickest fire prevention you’ll ever do.

• Deep-clean the vent hose every 3–6 months to keep things safe and efficient.

• Your clothes will dry faster, smell fresher, and your power bill will drop.

Safety first: Lint build-up is one of the leading causes of dryer fires. Regular cleaning is more than a tidy-up — it’s home protection.

Other notes

If your laundry smells musty or drying times drag, it’s a sign your vent needs urgent attention. Always check that the outside vent flap opens freely — it’s your dryer’s escape route for hot air.
