How to care for your Universal Cloths

How to care for your Universal Cloths

Understanding how to properly maintain your Koh Universal Cloths is essential for optimal cleaning performance and longevity.

Following our recommendations below will ensure they continue performing optimally for many hundreds of wash cycles.

Understanding Your Universal Cloths

Each professional-grade set includes four specialised 40 x 40cm microfiber cloths:
* 2 Green cloths designed for general household cleaning with each including a non-scratch scrubby corner
* 1 Blue cloth for bathroom surfaces (identical construction to green, colour-coded for hygiene)
* 1 White cloth specifically engineered for glass and glossy surfaces

These cloths are designed to work in conjunction with Koh's Universal Cleaner solution and perform best together when used dry.
We recommend to fold each cloth twice into a 1/4 sized square and use one side at a time, rotating to a new fresh side once the side being used becomes soiled.

Care Guidelines

Daily Use & Maintenance
* Ensure freshly laundered and dry Universal Cloths are available in handy locations along with a pre-filled Koh Atomiser of Universal Cleaner
* Fold each cloth twice into a 1/4 sized square and use one side at a time, rotating to a new fresh side once the side being used becomes soiled.
* Never leave damp/soiled cloths folded or bunched up in order to avoid unwanted microbial growth

Washing Instructions

Machine Washing Best Practices
1. Preparation
* Wash Universal Cloths separately from regular laundry - ideally in their own designated laundry wash bag
* Especially avoid washing with natural fibre garments as the residual fibres from them can become trapped within the Koh Cloths during washing
* Shake off loose debris before washing
* Note that minor colour run can occur when cloths are new so try to avoid washing the colour cloths with the white cloths
2. Washing Settings
* Use cool to warm water (30-40°C)
* Select a regular cycle with moderate spin
* Choose a sensitive formula, fragrance-free detergent where possible at low dose
* Ensure cloths have room to move freely in the washer or laundry bag
3. Important Cautions
* Avoid fabric softeners as they coat the fibres and reduce effectiveness
* Never use bleach - this can damage the fibres and reduce cleaning performance
* Avoid regular high-temperature washing accept for occasional washes if the Cloths are heavily soiled with grease etc.
* Keep separate from lint-producing materials

Hand Washing Method
1. Fill sink with lukewarm water
2. Add minimal gentle detergent
3. Soak 10-15 minutes
4. Gently work out dirt
5. Rinse thoroughly
6. Press out excess water - don't wring

Drying Guidelines
* Air drying is preferred
* If using a dryer, use only cool-low heat
* Keep out of direct sunlight
* Never iron

Maximising Performance

Restoration Process
If cleaning effectiveness / absorbency diminishes:

1. Create a solution of:
* 2 liters cool water
* 250ml white vinegar
2. Soak overnight
3. Rinse thoroughly
4. Air dry completely

Color Coding System
* Green: General household surfaces
* Blue: Bathroom areas
* White: Glass and mirrors only

Storage
* Store in a clean, dry location
* Keep colours separate
* Ensure complete drying before storing
* Avoid compressing cloths

Replacement Guidelines
Consider replacing your Universal Cloths when:
* Fibers appear visibly worn or matted
* Cleaning effectiveness noticeably decreases
* Staining remains after proper washing
* Edges show significant wear

With proper care, expect optimal performance for 18-24 months of regular use.

Environmental Benefits
Using Universal Cloths supports sustainable cleaning practices by:
* Reducing disposable cleaning material waste
* Minimising chemical cleaner usage
* Providing long-term durability
* Enabling effective cleaning with reduced environmental impact
* We recommend to use a specifically designed quality Nylon wash bag with a 50um grade mesh to capture any residual fibres from the cloths and prevent them from entering into the waste water.
