The month of July marks Plastic Free July, a global movement committed to reducing single-use plastic consumption and waste. From 1 to 31 July each year, the initiative seeks to educate, inspire and inform millions of people around the world to make informed decisions about plastic’s threat to us and our environment.
If you haven’t already guessed, Koh is a big supporter of reducing the use and production of single-use plastics. Not just in July but 365 days a year. Our mission has always been to give the world a safer clean, both for our families and our planet. This July is no different – here are all the ways Koh helps you reduce your consumption of single-us plastics without putting the burden on your shoulders. We make doing your bit as easy (if not easier!) than buying from our single-use counterparts. 😉
How Koh is showing up
We use as little single-use plastic as possible
Our product packaging has been carefully designed with the environment in mind to eliminate as much single-use plastics as we can while still making cleaning solutions our customers love.
The Roll’n’Recycle pouches (the ones that hold Universal Cleaner, Universal Laundry Liquid and Universal Dish Liquid) are an Aussie-first innovation making them 100% kerbside recyclable in your regular household bins. When the pouch is finished, simply roll it up, secure it with the provided sticker and pop it in your recycling bin. There’s no complicated returns process here! Our pouch design uses at least 90% less plastic than the traditional packaging you’ll find at the supermarket and it’s also won a bunch of awards we’re pretty proud of.
For our heftier 4L (and soon to be 2L) Universal Cleaner, we’ve thoughtfully created a ‘Bag in a Box’ packaging. Featuring – as described – a bag in a recyclable cardboard box, it uses significantly less plastic than the rigid bottles other cleaners come in. Research shows reducing plastic manufacturing and consumption is far better for the environment than recycling, most of which unfortunately doesn’t actually end up being recycled.
These boxes are shipped flat meaning we can send more from our facilities, reducing our carbon footprint. When compared to traditional packaging of our competitors, that will often send products from international suppliers in rigid single-use bottles that take up more space for less product.
Plus our Bag in a Box design is a much lighter way to carry large volumes of liquid so we can produce bulk sizes, reducing packaging waste and minimising shipping. Win, win!
Our cleaning solutions are refillable
Use it once and toss it? You won’t find that at Koh. We’ve developed a refillable system which means creating quality tools that are made to last so you can use them again and again.
Our refillable Atomiser Spray Bottle does the job of 100 single-use sprayers, equating to roughly 50,000 trigger pulls. While our Mop Heads are completely machine-washable and can be washed up to 50 times before it loses their effectiveness (versus those flimsy disposable wipes.) It also uses just a fraction of the water needed to clean your floors compared to the traditional mop and bucket.
Other tools like our Loo Blade, Grout Brush and Universal Cloths are made from sustainable or recycled materials with the environment at the forefront.
The Koh e-commerce shipping experience is completely plastic free
You won’t find a single bit of plastic when our shippers arrive at your door. No unnecessary plastic bags, packing peanuts, individually wrapped products or even sticky tape!
Instead we use cardboard boxes with recycled paper fill that you can toss straight into your household recycling bin.
